Patient
Services
Duluth Diabetes Center's broad range
of services ensures that our
patients have all the tools they
need to confidently manage their
condition. Some key components of
our approach are the following:
The "Take Charge!"
Diabetes Self-Management Program.
This outstanding program was
founded in 1990 and has been
recognized by the American
Diabetes Association (ADA) as
meeting national standards of
diabetes self-management education
since 1991.
Quality support services.
The depth and breadth of training
of our skilled staff means that we
can provide specialized care for
diabetes patients, including:
- pediatric diabetes care
- specialized obstetrical care
for Diabetes I, II, or
gestational diabetes for women
in pregnancy, or those in high
risk category
- education about patient medications and
instruments (insulin pens,
meters)
- initial and follow-up insulin
pump assessment
Education. We take
patient education very
seriously. Our seven Certified
Diabetes Educators provide
on-going education in diabetes
management for those with a new
diagnosis of diabetes or
pre-diabetes, or those with
Diabetes Mellitus 1 considering
insulin pump therapy. Education
sessions are given both
one-on-one and in classroom
settings. Our educators also
provide reviews for those
with existing diabetes.
Community service. Our
Certified Diabetes Educators
consult with school nurses in
our region and make classroom
presentations regularly. We also
participate in a community
insulin pump support group,
provide screening for the public
at the annual Lion's Pancake
Day and various seminars
throughout the year, support the
annual Walk for Diabetes, and
host an annual Halloween party
for kids.
