Hospitalists at SMDC Health System are board-certified doctors who have chosen to devote their entire practice to serving patients at St. Mary’s Medical Center and SMDC Medical Center in Duluth. This focus allows them to attend to the unique physical and emotional issues of hospitalized patients that office-based primary care physicians are not always available to handle.

A full-time focus on hospitalized patients

Based on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, our Hospitalist team is able to respond quickly to emergencies and to devote time to caring for patients and coordinating their care. This hospitalist-patient relationship is maintained throughout the continuum of hospital care, from the emergency room, inpatient ward, or critical care unit to post-hospital care.

SMDC's Hospitalist team believes that quality hospital care includes recognizing the unique physical and emotional concerns of hospitalized patients.
