Laboratory Oversight

Quality control in a clinical laboratory setting is extremely important. Physicians base nearly three quarters of their diagnoses and treatment decisions on lab tests. As a critical partner in health care delivery, the SMDC Clinical Laboratory’s sophisticated operations demand keen oversight to ensure a high quality environment that consistently produces reliable, on-time results.

Board-certified Duluth Clinic Pathologists oversee nearly every aspect of the SMDC Clinical Laboratory and its affiliated labs. They serve as medical directors of specialized areas within the lab — including phlebotomy and processing, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and the blood bank — and work closely with laboratory supervisors to ensure standardized instrumentation, policies, and procedures throughout the entire system.
