The automated robotic track system and integrated Beckman Coulter Power Processor at the SMDC Clinical Laboratory is an amazing piece of equipment. The futuristic system performs many steps that used to be done by humans:

• the system uses bar-code technology and automated sample sorting and handling to ensure samples are matched to the right patients and undergo the proper tests
• it centrifuges samples and delivers them directly to clinical chemistry analyzers
• when testing is complete, it routes samples to a refrigeration unit for storage. It can even retrieve samples from the refrigeration unit, place them back on the track, and perform additional testing when needed.

Automation like this reduces turnaround time, lowers the risk of human error, and improves the precision and reliability of our test results.
