Why choose us for research studies?

In addition to our commitment to patient safety, the Division of Education and Research offers these factors to patients who participate in our reseach studies

Quality and choice: We offer many of the same studies available at other leading facilities nationally, in the Twin Cities, and at the Mayo Clinic.

Experience. There is a long history of research at the Duluth Clinic, dating back to the organization's founding in 1915. The emphasis placed on research reached a new level in 1978, when we joined the North Central Cancer Treatment group as a charter member. This marked the beginning of formal, peer-reviewed group clinical studies.

Since 1983, our program has received funding for cancer research from the highly respected National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. The Division of Education and Research was formed in 1990 to manage the growing number studies and to enhance research opportunities in the region.  MORE on some of the more groundbreaking studies we’ve been able to offer patients...

Experience in research studies makes for better results. Over 25 years ago, our Cancer Center pioneered cooperative group research studies in the Northland by joining the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), at the invitation of the Mayo Clinic. Some of our oncologists have been with the Duluth CCOP for over 20 years. All of our studies are conducted under the direction of these oncologists and their colleagues.

Convenience. Participants in research studies here can stay close to their families while receiving the best quality of care available anywhere. Our research team also works closely with the staff at outreach clinics to make sure that study participants receive their research treatments in the proper way.
