Cardiovascular studies offer innovative treatment options to patients of the nationally recognized SMDC Heart & Vascular Center. This type of research has given patients access to the latest therapies, including new cholesterol medications, device implants and surgical procedures. The first drug-coated stent to be implanted in Duluth occurred as part of our research program. About 1,800 patients have taken part in cardiac studies since the start of cardiovascular research here in the early 1990s.
