Our Rheumatologists are often involved in helping patients deal with the painful inflammations and deteriorations that can affect the muscles, joints and nerves. Two of the most common ailments are Arthritis and Osteoporosis:

Arthritis
is an autoimmune disease that causes pain and swelling of the joints. The word arthritis actually means joint inflammation (artho=joint, itis=inflammation). Arthritis is not a simple, single disease. This sometimes crippling condition represents more than 100 different rheumatic diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, bursitis, gout, Lyme Arthritis, lupus and more. The inflammation associated with certain types of arthritis can also affect bones, muscles, skin, internal organs, or any other part of the body.

Osteoporosis is characterized by a decrease in bone mass and density. Left untreated, the disease can lead to rounded shoulders, loss of height, and a greater risk of bone fractures — most commonly in the hip, spine or wrist. According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, osteoporosis is a major public health threat for an estimated 44 million Americans, or 55 percent of the population 50 years of age and older.   Learn MORE about osteoporosis...
