SMDC Cancer Center offers a comprehensive program that’s been recognized by the Commission on Cancer, the National Cancer Institute’s Community Clinical Oncology Program and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. We are committed to prevention, treatment, follow-up care and research.

We’ve created a team of nationally recognized oncologists, surgeons, radiologists and cancer sub-specialists, including the region’s only pediatric oncologists. Our interdisciplinary approach also draws on experts from other medical specialties to develop a treatment plan tailored for your individual needs. We’ll help you make informed decisions.

Our Cancer Center team includes specially trained nurses, social workers, dietitians and chaplains who help with issues that complicate your life when you are dealing with a cancer diagnosis. We host the region's only cancer resource center, which offers information and classes. We also have networks of cancer survivors and support groups.

You may also benefit from our robust oncology clinical trials. Our Clinical Trials Department has 16 staff members who oversee more than 125 clincial trials each year. The department  has received grants from the National Cancer Institute’s Community Clinical Oncology Program since 1983. We’re one of only two sites in Minnesota and 50 across the United States that are part of this distinguished program.

The heart of our Cancer Center is located in our First Street Building (420 E. First St., Duluth, Minn.). Most of our services are conveniently located in this new building that offers sweeping views of Lake Superior from its waiting rooms and infusion rooms. You’ll also find radiation therapy, the Erick Peter Person Children’s Cancer Center and the Breast Health Center. Our CyberKnife is housed nearby.
