Technology and Equipment
As neonatology advances, new technologies become available to better care for premature and ill newborns. We are committed to investing in equipment to ensure our little ones have the best outcomes possible. For example, our respiratory equipment includes standard, high-frequency and oscillator ventilators, all with varying degrees of capacity for ventilating little lungs.
Thanks to the St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation, we were able to purchase Giraffe OmniBeds (which are beds with overhead heaters and incubators rolled into one. These beds contain built-in scales and allow full access to the infants for putting in lines or intubating — but they also turn into isolettes so infants don’t have to be moved.
We also have the following special features:
- neonatal intensive care monitors designed specifically for infants with heart problems
- infant respirator/ventilator units
- resuscitators for each infant
- infant-size intravenous pumps to regulate fluid intake
- incubators that regulate humidity, oxygen and temperature
- nutrition technologies to allow infants to receive nutrients through veins
- drug therapies
